THE FIGUEROA SISTERS SCHOLARSHIP
at Comité Noviembre
I am proud to announce that Comité Noviembre has established The Figueroa Sisters Scholarship, open to graduating high school seniors and undergraduate or graduate students majoring in creative writing or literature. The Figueroa Sisters Scholarship honors my mother, Carmen María Figueroa Llanos, and her sisters Betty Figueroa Llanos, Modesta Figueroa Alomar, and Rosa Amelia Figueroa.
Established in 2022, The Figueroa Sisters Scholarship is meant to give voice to the stories from Puerto Rico or in the diaspora. To support and encourage youth who seek to add to the story from a small island that incorporates a rich diversity of experience which needs to be reflected in literature.
We need to tell our own, authentic stories, in our own authentic voices.
I am asking friends and colleagues in lieu of a birthday or holiday gift, to please make a donation to The Figueroa Sisters Scholarship. When donating, simply indicate The Figueroa Sisters Scholarship and donations will be earmarked accordingly. To learn more about Comité Noviembre, to obtain criteria and guidelines and applications for the scholarship, or to donate to the scholarship, please visit ComiteNoviembre.org.
Thank you,
